50% of all adults in the UK lived in a household that had a broadband internet connection in the last quarter of 2006, this is an increase of 11% the year previously, and was a total of 13 million residential and SME broadband connections at the end of 2006 according to the results of a report by Ofcom, the communications regulator.
Another interesting statistic that was found was that on average broadband user spent 9.1 hours per week using the internet compared to just 4.4 hours for users still using narrowband dial up connections, this shows how much more accessible and how user experiences can increase with much faster internet surfing and the ability to view and do more things that are not really feasible on dial up, such as viewing video clips. 51% of adults using broadband at home had viewed video clips with 26% of those doing this weekly!
